OXFORD (WWJ) – Tom Donnelly, the president of the Oxford Community Schools board, has announced he is stepping down, more than two years before his term was set to expire.

Donnelly has not yet commented on his decision to step away from the position.

Superintendent Ken Weaver announced the decision Wednesday in an email to Oxford families.

“We are very appreciative to Mr. Donnelly for his years of dedicated service. We will communicate further information in regards to the open school board position as it becomes available,” Weaver said in the email.

The move comes less than four months after Donnelly said an independent review of last November's deadly shooting at Oxford High School would not be conducted until after criminal and civil litigation was resolved.

A student opened fire inside Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021, killing four students -- Hana St. Juliana, Tate Myre, Madisyn Baldwin and Justin Shilling. Six other students and a teacher were injured in the shooting.

Weaver says more information on the move is forthcoming.
