ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- The accused Oxford High School shooter has undergone a psychiatric exam, but the results won't be in for a month.
That's the latest in the case of 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, who made a court appearance in Rochester Hills on Thursday.
Also discussed at the hearing were schooling options for the teen.
Crumbley's legal guardian Deborah McKelvey revealed that Crumbley is mulling over how to continue his education; with the options enrolling in a strict disciplinary academy, a cyber school, or getting his GED and going on to community college.
At this time, Crumbley has limited access to a tablet, but McKelvey noted that he will need a laptop.
"I did speak with him yesterday," McKelvey said. "He's thinking about what path he wants to proceed with. But the earliest that we can start implementing it would have to be after his 16th birthday, which is in approximately another month."
Judge Kwame Rowe continued Crumbley's confinement in the the adult jail for another month; an issue that, under the law, must be reconsidered periodically.
Prosecutors have argued that the alleged mass murdered is too much of a danger to his peer to be moved to juvenile detention in Oakland County Children's Village, while the defense contended that the teen's needs would be better served in the youth facility.
"This court has not been presented with anything additional information, or new information that would cause this court to disturb its March 1, 2022 opinion and order," Judge Rowe said. "Therefore the court will continue the defendant's placement at the Oakland County Jail, and we will will set this matter for an additional review."
Crumbley's next hearing is set for April 21.
Four students were fatally shot and a student and teacher were wounded in the massacre on Nov. 30, in Oxford Township. Also charged in the case are Crumbley's parents who are facing involuntary manslaughter charges for allegedly ignoring their son's mental health issues, and buying him the gun.
