WARREN (WWJ) -- Two people were able to escape safely from an early morning house fire in Macomb County, but unfortunately, their two dogs didn't have the same luck.
Warren Fire Department Captain Chris Shields said their department got a call about a house fire on Keifer Avenue, just off Eureka Road, at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
"We were told everybody was out, but there might be a couple of dogs in there," said Shields.
The fire crew found two dead dogs inside the home while fighting the flames.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell, who was on the scene, said the two people are "saddened" and currently trying to figure out what to do.

The fire department was able to contain the fire to the inside of the home and away from neighboring houses.
The cause of the fire is still to be determined.
