(WWJ) A drunk and confused man was arrested on I-75 in Oakland County, Michigan — about 900 miles from where he thought he was, according to police.

Troy Police responded to northbound freeway, south of W. Long Lake Road just after 3:30 a.m. last Monday to check on a driver who was stopped in the roadway.

Officers found the black 2020 Ford Fusion in the left lane with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

The man woke up when police knocked on the window and opened the driver’s side door. Officers noted that the driver "appeared to be confused" as he tried to shift the car into Drive.

Police helped the man out of the car, and that's when they noticed he smelled like alcohol.

The driver — identified as a 29-year-old resident of Norcross, Georgia — believed he was currently in the state of Georgia, police said, telling officers he was driving home from a friend’s house after drinking one drink.

The man was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations, which he did but performed poorly, police said.

A Preliminary Breath Test showed the driver had a BAC of .188%, which is well over Michigan's legal limit for driving. He was arrested and taken to Troy Police Lock-up where he submitted to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .18% and .17%.

The man was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol (OWI) – second offence. Police noted that he had a prior conviction for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol out of Wyandotte in 2014. His name was not released.
