TROY (WWJ) -- Detroit police have arrested a man wanted in connection with the murder of a woman in the city days after he allegedly tried to abduct a woman in a Target parking lot in Troy last week.
On Tuesday, the Troy Police Department said they identified 31-year-old Andrew Hall as a "person of interest" in the disturbing and violent incident outside the Target on Coolidge Hwy., south of Maple Rd., at 9:10 p.m. last Friday.
Hours after announcing Hall was allegedly responsible for a murder early Tuesday morning, Detroit police officials said he had been taken into custody.
Troy police officials said Tuesday night Hall was arrested in Dearborn Heights and turned over to DPD to be held on their charges. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office issued a warrant charging Hall with unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, attempted carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation with the Target incident.
Authorities said Hall was wanted in connection with the killing of a woman around 30 years old at around midnight in the 300 block of McNichols Road, just west of Woodward Avenue.
Authorities have not released many details about the murder, but Assistant Detroit Police Chief David LeValley said during a press conference earlier in the day the suspect and victim had met at the location and got into an altercation. The suspect is believed to have used a knife in the murder, LeValley said.
The woman's body was left behind a building, according to LeValley. Investigators found footage from near the murder scene showing a suspect riding a bike and wearing the same clothes as he was during the attempted abduction at Target.
"We need to take him into custody as soon as possible," LeValley said.
He noted investigators were able to identify Hall as the suspect thanks to a tip from the community and were able to collect more evidence.
Sharing details of her harrowing experience on social media, the Troy victim said a man she didn't know forced her way into her parked car, punched her in the face and put a gun to her head.
When he ordered her not to scream and to get into the backseat, she refused, opting to fight. The woman wrote: "When I grabbed the barrel of the gun to point it away from me and fight, I envisioned my son’s face. I wasn’t scared, I was angry. I caught him off guard and for a moment, I was winning."
The victim was able to get the attention of a person nearby.
The witness yelled at the suspect and ran toward the victim, police said. That's when the suspect fled.
Police arrived, and the woman was found with injuries to her face.
Seen on images from store surveillance video, police said Hall was last seen wearing a green baseball hat, gray shirt and red shorts. He was seen in those same clothes on surveillance in Detroit.
Michigan Department of Corrections records show Hall is a felon, having served time for a conviction for a home invasion in Oakland County in 2013. Records show Hall was also pleaded to a 2017 prison escape attempt, before he was released from prison on April 4, 2021.
