DETROIT (WWJ) - A 2-year-old boy was found wandering in Detroit on Saturday afternoon -- even though authorities are trying to answer how or why the child was alone, they first need help on finding out who he is.

The Detroit Police Department said they first received a call about a found child around noon on May 6. According to police, the young boy was walking around the area of Heyden and Cathedral.

Officers responded to the location and took the child to the hospital as a precaution, but police are still trying to determine the boy's identity.

Now they're turning to the public for help.

Police said the boy was wearing a gray shirt and a pull up diaper when he was discovered. A photo of the child was released by authorities in the hope that someone may recognize him.

If anyone knows this child, or knows his parents, or guardians, they have been asked to call the Detroit Police Department's 6th Precinct at 313-596-5601.
