(WWJ) The Detroit Police Department is asking for tips from the public as investigators search for a teenage girl, who went missing over the summer.

On July 23, 2021, the mother of 14-year-old Makayla Jenks went to a police station to report her daughter missing from their home in the 7800 block of Mansfield Street, saying that no one had seen the teen since around 11 a.m. the day before.

However, police said the mom would not authorize police to release her daughter's photo and information to the media until recently.

Jenks is described as a Black female, 5'5'' tall and weighing around 120 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair with light brown braids. It is unknown what she was wearing when she disappeared.

Police said the missing teen is believed to be physically fit and in good mental condition. Other details surrounding her disappearance are unclear.

Anyone in the public who sees Jenkins is urged to call 911. If you have information about her whereabouts, you can call the DPD's 6th Precinct at 313-596-5640, or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
