ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- Police are still working to find two armed suspects connection with an incident that prompted a "shelter in place" alert Monday morning on the campus of Oakland University.

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, Oakland University began sending out text and Twitter alerts, delaying classes and urging students to stay indoors.

According to the alerts, multiple law enforcement agencies were onsite, searching for a pair of gunmen last spotted at the intersection of Adams Rd and Walter Blvd. -- near Meadow Brook Amphitheatre and OU's east campus.

Updates from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office revealed the suspects helped steal three cars from an auto dealership in Genesee County, where they exchanged gunfire with security officers. After driving south into Oakland County, the gunmen had crashed one of the stolen cars and fled on foot.

Police set up a perimeter, issued the shelter-in-place order, and began their search. The suspects were described as two black men of slim build. One was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Just before 9 a.m., officers were approached by a witness who reported seeing two men matching the description get into a vehicle and drive off several hours earlier. That's when police lifter the "shelter in place" alert.

Classes and all other campus activities at OU were scheduled at noon and continue as usual for the remained of the day.

There is no description of the suspects, as the investigation continues.
