SOUTH LYON (WWJ) – Police are investigating after a high school in South Lyon was placed on lockdown for the second time this month.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to South Lyon High School around 2 p.m. Tuesday after a threat was found written on a second-floor bathroom mirror.

The threat, which claimed someone was “gonna shoot the school up today,” was investigated and deemed to be non-credible, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies searched all the classrooms in the school, located at 1000 N. Lafayette in Lyon Township, but found nothing. Students were released from the building after their room was searched for weapons and cleared.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said Tuesday the threat will be “vigorously investigated,” has he has said with many other false threats since the Oxford High School shooting last November.

“Any responsible person will be held accountable. Even if the threat is non-credible, it is still a crime that spreads fear, and we will seek all applicable charges. Parents, please talk to your children,” Bouchard said, per a press release.

Back on Oct. 4, South Lyon East High School was placed on lockdown after a threat was found in a bathroom. After-school activities were canceled and students were searched when they arrived for classes the following day.

Ultimately, a 15-year-old sophomore at East High School admitted to school officials and detectives he had written the threat. That student was charged with threatening to commit violence with a firearm, explosive or other dangerous weapon against students or staff on school property.

School officials suspended the student and said they will intend to expel him. He was ordered confined to his Wixom home. He must wear an electronic tether, is prohibited from using social media and his internet use is to be monitored by his parents. His case is pending in juvenile court.
