PONTIAC, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Pontiac woman is in police custody awaiting possible charges after an incident with her boyfriend ended in gunfire.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a residence in the 1000 block of Amos Street just before 1 a.m. Sunday on the report of an assault that had just occurred.

Authorities say a 49-year-old Pontiac man reported that his 46-year-old girlfriend threatened to kill him while holding a handgun. The woman fired a single round through the living room wall, and the man ran out of the house and called 911, according to the sheriff's office.

The man was not injured, but said the bullet went through the living room wall and into the neighboring townhouse. Details of what led to the shooting were not disclosed.

Deputies arrived on scene and secured the front and rear of the townhouse and contacted a 29-year-old woman who lived in the townhouse. Deputies then followed the direction of the bullet hole and located the spent round lodged inside of a suitcase on the living room floor.

The woman told authorities she had just returned home from vacation a few hours prior and had left her suitcase in the living room before going to bed. She was not injured during the incident, either.

Police say the woman who fired the gun was still at the scene and was placed under arrest, while her 9mm semiautomatic handgun was taken as evidence. She was taken to the Pontiac substation for questioning and was subsequently lodged at the Oakland County Jail, pending the issuance of charges.
