DETROIT (WWJ) – For anyone who has been fed up with the recent spell of bitter cold weather and snow in Metro Detroit, there’s some good news.
Things are expected to warm up significantly by Tuesday, with temps climbing into the lower 40s.
But there’s also some bad news – temperatures will drop again and more snow could again be on its way Tuesday night.
AccuWeather meteorologist Matt Benz tells WWJ Tuesday’s warmer weather is expected to bring a few afternoon rain showers, but by Tuesday night, it will likely turn into a snow storm that could stick around all the way through Thursday.
“We are monitoring a potential for a major winter storm here across Michigan,” Benz told WWJ.
Benz, though he didn’t give an estimate on snowfall totals, said those with mid-week travel plans should “keep an eye out” for what he says could be “disruptive snow.”

Aside from below freezing temperatures for the past week or two, it’s been a pretty mild winter in Metro Detroit in terms of snow, with only a handful of storms that haven’t produced major snowfall totals typical of a Michigan winter.
AccuWeather’s website says there could be up to 4 inches of snow on Wednesday and 2 ½ more inches on Thursday.
The National Weather Service says there could be some light snow flurries on Sunday, though no accumulation is expected. An arctic front is expected to arrive on Wednesday, bringing on the snow and plunging temps trending back toward the teens.
