Reckless driver flees rollover crash on foot, is struck and killed by second vehicle

DETROIT (WWJ) -- After rolling his vehicle into the median on I-94, a driver attempted to escape on foot and was fatally struck on the opposite side of the freeway.

On Monday morning just after 1 a.m., Michigan State Police were dispatched to the scene of a rollover crash on westbound I-94 near Harper Ave. in Detroit.

Troopers found a female passenger with a critical head injury. She was taken to a local hospital.

According to witnesses, the rolled vehicle had been driving recklessly and ran off the road before overturning.

Upon further investigation, police learned that a male driver and two children had been in the vehicle. The driver had moved the children to an unknown vehicle before fleeing on foot.

The man's body was found in the left lane on eastbound I-94 near Gratiot Ave. He had been struck by another vehicle and was declared dead by police. The driver who hit the man remained at the scene of the crash.

The children involved in the rollover crash have been located and were not injured. The female passenger has not been identified.

Police are continuing to investigate both crashes.
