
REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - A Redford Township man who was shot by police over the weekend is facing rape, assault, child abuse and weapons charges.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said 39-year old Norman Louis Muscat is accused of beat his mother-in-law with a bat before he sexually assaulting her at a home in the 26530 block of Plymouth Road in Redford, early Saturday morning.
Following the attack, authorities allege that Muscat hit a 14-year-old boy with a bat and threatened his wife with a knife before police arrived on the scene.
Muscat was shot once by an officer after he came out of the house armed with a rifle, according to prosecutors. authorities..
He was treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest.
Tuesday morning he was arranged in 17th District Court and remanded to jail without bond.
The charges are as follows: One count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, one count of Third-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, two counts of Second-Degree Child Abuse, one count of Child Abuse – Second-Degree Committed in the Presence of Another Child, six counts of Felonious Assault, and one count of Felony Firearm.
Muscat's next scheduled court appearance is a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for March 29.
