ALLEN PARK (WWJ) -- A dog named Bailey wasn’t having the best day when he fell 15 to 20 feet down a sewer basin, but his luck turned around when some dedicated city authorities came to his aid.

The 12-year-old pooch was out on a walk with his human last week in a vacant field off Enterprise Drive in Allen Park when he disappeared.

Bailey’s owner then realized he had fallen into an open cement sewer basin, and contacted authorities.

With a combined effort from Allen Park fire officials, the Water and Sewer Department and Downriver Animal Control, rescuers were able to use confined space equipment to descend into the hole and bring Bailey to safety.

The dog walked back to his owner’s car on his own, and was taken to a vet where he received stitches and a thorough scrubbing.

According to authorities, the sewer cover was likely knocked off by a piece of machinery, leaving the hole open.

Bailey is reportedly doing just fine after his rescue.
