DETROIT (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a freeway shooting Tuesday afternoon in Southwest Detroit that left I-75 closed for several hours.

Michigan State Police got a call around 4:20 p.m. from a person driving a Ford Focus reporting they were shot at by someone in a maroon passenger car, officials said.

When troopers responded to the scene on northbound I-75 near Schaefer, they found three bullet holes in the Ford and three shell casings.

The caller told police the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident, but authorities have not said exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting.

No one was hit by the gunfire, MSP officials said.

While the suspect vehicle was described as a maroon passenger car, authorities did not release any other information about the suspect.

Troopers closed northbound I-75 at Schaefer Highway as they investigated. The freeway reopened around 7:30 p.m.

MSP officials said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
