(WWJ) A Roseville man convicted of raping a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl five years ago will spend at least 55 years behind bars.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said 45-year old Shannon Jones was sentenced in Macomb County Circuit Court on Tuesday, five years after he sexually assaulted the two young girls while living with their mother from September to December, 2018.

Jones fled the state to Alabama following the rapes, but was captured three years ago by U.S. Marshalls and returned to Macomb County.

In March, a Macomb County jury deliberated 35 minutes before returning the guilty verdicts on five counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree with a Person under Thirteen, Defendant over Seventeen; two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree Person under Thirteen, Defendant over Seventeen; and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

On counts one through three of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree Jones was sentenced to 30-60 years. On the fourth count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree, the judge sentenced Jones to parolable life.

The judge sentenced Jones to 25-50 years in prison on the last count of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree to be served consecutively after counts one through four. On the two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the Second Degree, Jones was sentenced to 10-15 years, and on Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, a 93 day misdemeanor, Jones received credit for time served.

In total, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said Jones will spend a minimum of 55 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

“I would like to thank Judge (James R.) Chylinski for making sure this predator is in prison for the rest of his life so our children are safe. Thank you to the Roseville Police Department for investigating this case and the U.S. Marshals for returning the defendant back to Macomb County to stand trial,” said Lucido, in a statement.
