ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A Roseville High School student is being held without bond after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school on Wednesday, an incident that prompted a lockdown at the school.

On Thursday the student, whose name and age were not released, was charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon (a five-year felony) and one of count possession of a weapon in a weapon-free school zone (a 93-day misdemeanor).

Roseville Community Schools Superintendent Mark Blaszkowski announced the student's arrest on Wednesday after the juvenile was discovered armed on the property.

In a letter to parents and students, Blaszkowski said a junior at the school alerted a staff member that the other student may have had a weapon, after witnessing "some worrying behavior."

The child was searched and the Principal opened his backpack and saw a firearm. The Security Resource Officer handcuffed the juvenile and retrieved the Glock 9mm firearm with an extended magazine.

The gun was determined to be loaded, with a round in the chamber, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect denied the gun was his. Later it was found, the firearm was stolen out of Bloomfield Township.

Blaszkowski expressed his thanks for the person coming forward to report the threat and applauded the execution of the lockdown by staff and students following extensive training.

"I cannot express how important the "Hear Something, Say Something" campaign helps to provide a safer environment for our students," Blaszkowski said. "Encourage your child to talk to any trusted adult and use www.mighigan.gov/OK2Say to report any possible threat to our school and its staff or students."

Officials say the student lives in Wayne County and the court will attempt to move the case there. Officials didn't say what city the student is from.

The suspect is being held at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center.
