Scam involving fake bail bondsmen targeting seniors in Warren

WARREN (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are warning of a scam targeting seniors in metro Detroit.

The MSP Fraud Unit and the Secret Service are investigating an increase in suspects posing as bail bondsman in Warren, and other cities in Macomb County.

The suspects are targeting senior citizens by telling them they are collecting bond for a loved one.

Police say the scam artists demand up to $30,000 in cash and return the next day to pick it up, then disappear with the money.

“If someone comes to your door and asks for bond money, DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM,” MSP advises. “If you are unsure, call 911 and ask for an officer.”

If you have been a victim of this scam or have information on this group, please contact the MSP Fraud Unit at 248-508-6656.
