ARMADA (WWJ) - A couple along with their two large dogs are being sought by officials in Macomb County after they say the animals attacked and killed a Bichon over the weekend.

As reported by WDIV, the dog-on-dog attack occurred outside the Kozy Korner Saloon on Saturday, Oct. 29 on Fulton and East Main Street in Armada.

Susan Kahanak told WDIV that she was walking her French Bichon, Olaf, past the restaurant when two English Mastiffs suddenly jumped up.

“They toppled the table, and the dogs they attacked my dog,” Kahanak said.

As reported by WDIV, witnesses said the large breed dogs dragged Olaf into the road before one of the owners managed to get hit the Mastiff until it dropped the Bichon from its mouth.

Kahanak rushed Olaf to the vet for emergency care, but he died of his injuries on Monday.

“I miss him terribly,” Kahanak said.

According to Armada police Chief Richard Maierle, the couple and their dogs quickly left the scene in a blue sedan after the incident.

Kahanak said she is concerned about the large dogs potentially attacking again and hopes the owners can be found.

“It could’ve been a child,” Kahanak said.

According to the American Kennel Club, English Mastiffs are "patient, lovable companions," who can be protective of family with a "natural wariness of strangers."

English Mastiff males top the scales between 160 and 230 pounds when fully grown, while females weigh in at 120 and 170 pounds.

Police were unable to obtain security footage or photos of the couple, but hopes others may know of the dogs and their owners.

“Put it out on the media,” said Maierle to WDIV. “Maybe somebody’s got a tip (or) somebody knows who the people are. Maybe they talked about it. So we’re looking for somebody to contact the Armada Village police.”

Police say the couple appeared to be in the 30s, with the female having blonde hair and the male being heavier-set.

The couple is said to have at least two English Mastiffs.
