MONROE COUNTY (WWJ) -- A chain-reaction crash involving three semis and a box truck have created quite the mess on I-75 Thursday afternoon in Monroe County.

Northbound I-75 at Erie Road -- about 5 miles from the Michigan/Ohio border -- remains closed as Erie Township Police Department and a half dozen tow trucks clean up the debris and damaged trucks.

According to authorities, one semi-truck overturned, which led to a huge multi-truck crash.

Three semis and a box truck were involved in the crash that caused the trailers on the two semis and the truck to rip open, spilling their items all over the freeway, with some debris going over the middle wall and ending up in the southbound lanes.

The third semi-truck ended up being smashed in the front.

It's not known yet what may have caused the crash, but the slippery, snowy conditions on I-75 may have contributed, said WWJ reporter Mike Campbell.

Injuries are unknown at this time.
