DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 4-year-old boy who was shot while he slept in his family's home on the west side of Detroit early Wednesday morning has returned home.
Detroit police are investigating the shooting, which happened around 3 a.m. in the 18400 block of Stout Street -- near Evergreen and 7 Mile Roads.
The young boy was struck in the buttocks, while four other children and two adults -- including his mother -- that were inside the home were uninjured, police officials said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
The boy had initially been listed in critical condition, due to his age, but was upgraded to stable, before being released from Children's Hospital.
During Wednesday's press conference, Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald said investigators have "a whole lot of nothing" to go on. Authorities initially thought they had doorbell camera footage from neighbors that would help the investigation, but it "turned out to be nothing," Fitzgerald said.
Authorities are asking for any tips in the case, as they look for the suspects. Anyone who may know something about the shooting can submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP, or visit detroitrewards.tv.
Detroit's 8th precinct commander, Brian Harris, told WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell earlier in the day police were not sure whether this was a drive-by, though police do know the shots entered from the outside of the home.
Harris said the bullets came from an unknown person using a high-powered rifle.
Harris said there isn't a suspect or a motive at this time, as they continue to canvas the neighborhood and take pictures of houses that may have also been hit by gunfire.
The commander noted that police were called to this home back in February for a disturbance.
