DETROIT (WWJ) – While there hasn’t been much snow in Metro Detroit this season, "we're not done with winter just yet.”
Metro Detroiters woke up to snow Sunday morning, and it’s expected to continue throughout most of the day. AccuWeather meteorologist Matt Benz says most of the area can expect a “slippery coating to an inch” when all is said and done.
The National Weather Service in Detroit says some spots could see up to two inches, as the snowfall is expected to peak in the early afternoon hours, though light snow will continue into the evening.
While Benz says drivers will need to use caution out on the roads Sunday, we could be looking at more serious snowfall later in the week.
“Wednesday will be the day to keep an eye on, with the potential for accumulating snow, maybe even plowable snow,” Benz said live on WWJ Sunday morning. "So we're not done with winter just yet."
AccuWeather hasn’t yet come out with a predicted snowfall total for that system, but Benz expects hazardous travel conditions.
Benz noted before Sunday’s snow, Metro Detroit had only seen an average of seven inches this season – which is well below average. But it appears Wednesday will certainly be adding to that total.
