State Police: Manhunt for mid-Michigan murder suspect ends

UNION TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- The manhunt for a suspected murderer near Mount Pleasant is over.

The suspect, 40-year-old Isaiah “Zeke” Gardenhire, turned himself in late Monday night after he traveled to the Flint area in a stolen Ford Fusion.

He then called a local TV station and said he wanted to turn himself in, and police negotiated his surrender at Montego’s Liquor Shop.

Gardenhire was wanted for a murder and sexual assault that happened early Sunday morning in Isabella County's Union Township.

Michigan State Police say a juvenile female was stabbed and later died, and an adult woman was sexually assaulted.

Gardenhire had reportedly made bond from a Mason County jail just days before the incident in Union Township, after being arrested on charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and a separate charge for being a habitual offender.

His most recent charges are expected to be murder and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
