Multiple southeastern Michigan counties under High Wind Warnings

(WWJ) Storms have walloped metro Detroit.

The counties of St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Wayne remain under a High Wind Warning until midnight.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts southwest winds of 40 to 60 miles per hour with the potential to blow down trees and power lines.

At approximately 8:45, the NWS National Weather Service (NWS) issued an update.

"The main line of thunderstorms has tracked east of the area, although lingering storms will remain for the rest of the evening," the NWS wrote.

Nearly 90,000 metro Detroit residents are without power as of 9:45.

Northern Macomb County and Trenton were under Tornado Warnings from about 9:15 to 9:30. No one reported sightings of the funnel cloud or damage.

Western and northern Michigan also got hit hard.

By late afternoon; the high winds, of 60 to 70 miles per hour, had blown through Midland, Clare, Gladwin, Houghton Lake, and Reed City, north of Big Rapids. Students in the Clare and Farwell districts were kept in class when the storms arrived at dismissal time--rather than being allowed to go home.

Thunderstorms were also seen in Grand Rapids, Muskegon and west of Mt. Pleasant.

The Severe Weather Watch is set to expire in southeastern Michigan at 11 p.m. Tuesday.
