LANSING (WWJ) -- An investigation into violent threats made against Sparrow Hospital in Lansing turned up no credible evidence, leading police to believe the calls were yet another instance of swatting.
Lansing police responded to reports of a person with an AR-15 at Sparrow Hospital around 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
While officers were on the scene, they received more calls from the same person, who was threatening to bomb the building.
The hospital was placed on lockdown while law enforcement conducted a thorough search, going room-to-room through the entire facility.
After determining that the threats were not credible, police cleared the building at 6:30 a.m.
In a post to social media, Lansing PD stated that they believe the threats were swatting calls.
Swatting is defined as making fake 911 calls with the purpose of getting police -- often a SWAT team -- to show up at a home, business or other location, per the Associated Press.
"We take swatting calls like these very seriously" Lansing PD said in their update, "and we will continue to investigate to find out who is responsible."
Additionally, there are no suspects but also no threat to the public.
