15-year-old shot in the chest, killed while attending hotel party in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities confirmed a teenage boy is dead after he was struck in the chest by gunfire early Saturday morning during a party at Hawthorne Suites near the border of Dearborn and Detroit.

According to investigators with the Detroit Police Department, the incident began as an exchange over social media and escalated into the fatal shooting at a party attended by 20 to 30 teenagers around 3:30 a.m.

Detroit Police Sixth Precinct Captain Michael Dicicco provided an update on the case Saturday morning as reported by WDIV.

“Three suspects arrived on foot and the victim came to the door doorway, and shots were fired from the ground from not only from the ground, but also from the apartment at each other. And the victim was hit in the chest came back inside the apartment where he passed away,” Dicicco explained.

Police said the parents of the teenagers arrived on scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

The suspects remain at large at this time, but police are working to bring them into custody. If anyone has any information about this incident, they've been asked to call the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5200.
