FRANKENMUTH (WWJ) The Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth is about to get bigger, adding more opportunities for family fun.
The Lodge, one of Frankenmuth’s major tourist draws, is slated to undergo an $80 million project that will add 20+ new attractions, including many water slides, a wave pool and an adult swim up bar.
Lodge President Michael Keller Zehnder said, when the project is complete, the Bavarian Inn Lodge will be “Michigan’s largest indoor waterpark and family entertainment center, at more than 140,000 square feet of family fun.”
“We are truly raising the bar on fun at the Lodge, creating unique attractions and new types of experiences within our resort,” Zehnder said.“This expansion will help us to advance our goal of creating fun and enjoyable experiences for all ages. We are reimagining family fun and see this as an exciting project for all of Frankenmuth.”
The Lodge, on the banks of the Cass River, already has 360 European-themed guest rooms (including family suites), an adult-only pool, two gift shops, two lounges and two restaurants. The Family Fun Center has two water slides, three pools, a plethora of video games, a two-level children’s play village and indoor mini-golf course. Nightly entertainment includes family karaoke shows. Banquet facilities focus on “Old World Charm” combined with modern technology. The multi-generational family-owned Bavarian Inn Lodge has been in business for 36 years and counting.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for December 13. All other parts of The Lodge will remain open during construction, which will be completed by the same contractors who built all other phases of The Lodge.
The new expansion is slated to open to guests in spring of 2024, with some parts of the new family fun center possibly opening in fall of 2023.
