DEARBORN (WWJ) - Authorities said over $1 million worth of brand new Ford pickup trucks were recovered in various states of disrepair after being heisted from a Ford plant in Dearborn last Friday.
As reported by The Detroit News, all 13 F-150 Raptors, which were taken in the early morning hours from a lot at the Ford's Rouge complex, were recovered as of June 17, but city spokesperson Bilal Baydoun said all of the vehicles were damaged.
The trucks, Baydoun said, each carried a baseline value of $69,905 a piece.
"They were in varying states of disrepair, some had parts, primarily tires, stripped away and others had signs of damage possibly related to ramming," he explained to The Detroit News.
According to Baydoun, the Dearborn police has taken one suspect into custody. The person has been charged in connect to the theft, but it is unclear if all 13 vehicles were part of the same heist.
Baydoun did not release the name of the suspect who has been charged.
"The individual who was arrested was charged with two separate felony charges," Baydoun said. "Essentially what these charges correlate to is the alleged theft and the possession of the theft."
Ford has been dealing with multiple theft cases of brand new cars at assembly plants. On Thursday, thieves drove six Shelby GT500 Mustangs right under the nose of a security guard and through an open at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant at around 3:30 in the morning.
One 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody after it is alleged that he led troopers on a car chase. The vehicle eventually ran out of gas and he was arrested and arraigned on multiple charges Friday afternoon.
MSP said three other Shelby GT500 vehicles were discovered abandoned at several locations around Detroit - they appeared to have also run out of gas.
Police explained to WXYZ that the vehicles did not have much fuel in them because they were still on the factory lot. Having very little gas in brand new cars also serves as at deterrent as it helps keep thieves from getting very far before they have to stop for gas.
