(WWJ) Dozens of fires were set, property was destroyed, and now the East Lansing Police Department is asking for information to identify the people responsible.
In what's become a regrettable game day tradition, Michigan State University football fans burned couches, benches and other items, and even overturned a car following Saturday's win over University of Michigan.
According to police, the East Lansing Fire Department responded to 57 calls for service on Oct. 30, 2021, involving fires throughout the city, "in gridlock traffic," while still having to respond to a total of 142 calls for service.
The ELPD responded to 349 calls for service, many of those to assist the fire department with crowd control while they were trying to put the fires out.
Reaching out on social media on Tuesday, the police department said, "It is unfortunate that this post needs to be made, but we need your help..."
"This behavior is not acceptable, and suspects identified will be located and held responsible," police added. "Over the next few days and weeks, we will be reviewing all social media posts, tips, and other information we receive."
Police shared pictures and video that they say is just a "small example" of what is currently being reviewed.
Anyone who knows the identities of the people seen in the images is asked to call Detective Sgt. Adam Park at 517-319-6834. Anyone who has additional videos or pictures from these incidents should email them to Det. Park at apark@cityofeastlansing.com.
