BRANDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a 2-year-old Sterling Heights boy was killed after falling off a tractor he was riding with his cousin on Saturday.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and the Brandon Township Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Nelson William Drive around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The caller said family members had begun to administer CPR after the child had fallen from the tractor.
The first deputies to arrive on-scene immediately began rendering life-saving measures until the fire department showed up, when paramedics took over the care of the toddler.
The child was taken to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the child had been riding on the tractor with his 33-year-old cousin from Brandon Township and another two-year-old boy when he fell off. It was not immediately clear what led to the boy’s fall.
After an autopsy Sunday, the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office says the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, admitted he had been drinking prior to taking the boys for a ride. He was taken into police custody and a blood test was conducted. Lab results are pending.
The investigation is underway.
