TROY (WWJ) -- A man from Troy who thought he landed a work-from-home job ended up just getting scammed.

During the week of March 12, Troy police said the victim applied for a job on the work-search website, Indeed, and was offered the position.

The company then sent him a $4,000 check to purchase supplies.

Four days after depositing the check, he received a notification from the bank saying that the money had been withdrawn from his account.

After the victim did additional research, police said he realized someone on Indeed was impersonating to be the actual company he thought he was applying for.

It was confirmed to be a scam, police said.
