TROY (WWJ) -- A 30-year-old man is facing multiple charges after it's alleged he stole an SUV and crashed it into a restaurant in Troy last Friday.
Police responded to a call at around 2:15 a.m. from a woman in the 2800 block of Troy Center Dr. who said her boyfriend's roommate took her Chevrolet Equinox, along with $450 cash from her purse.
While police were investigating the initial report, officers were called to the Stoney River Steakhouse on Big Beaver Rd. about a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck the building, causing heavy damage to the building.
Police arrived on the scene to find the vehicle was the same one that the women had reported stolen, a little but more than an hour prior.
The driver, identified as a Troy resident, was able to crawl out of the back of the vehicle and refused any medical evaluation.
No other injuries were reported.
Police said the man told officers he was coming from a Royal Oak bar, and they noted he had glassy eyes and was slurring his speech.
After allegedly failing some field sobriety tests, the man refused to take a breath test. He was taken to Troy Police Lock Up where a warrant was obtained for a blood test.
The suspect, who was found to have three fail-to-appear warrants and a suspended driver’s license, was charged with Unlawful Driving Away a Motor Vehicle, Operating with a High Blood Alcohol Content, and Driving While License Suspended 2nd Offense. His name was not immediately released.
