TROY (WWJ) – A Detroit man has been charged after police caught him driving under the influence of marijuana in Troy late last month.
Troy police officials say around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 26 officers spotted a 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck with an expired license plate driving “noticeably below the speed limit” near Big Beaver and John R Roads.
When officers pulled him over and went to talk to the 40-year-old driver, officers noted “an overwhelming odor of burnt marijuana” coming from the truck. They also spotted a partially smoked marijuana joint in the cup holder, according to police.
The driver’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot and his movements were lethargic, the officers said.
The man, whose name hasn’t been released, performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations, police said. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .000% and ultimately had a warrant served for a blood draw at the Troy Police Lock-Up.
The case has been turned over to the Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned.
