TROY (WWJ) – A Sterling Heights man is facing drunk driving charges after police found him asleep at the wheel while waiting for a stoplight.

Troy police officers were called to the intersection of Rochester Road and Barclay Drive around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 3 after receiving reports of the man asleep at a red light.

When officers showed up they saw the 24-year-old man sleeping inside his white Chevy Cruze stopped at the light on southbound Rochester.

Officers were able to wake the driver and had to assist him with putting his vehicle into park.

The driver told police he was coming from a nearby bar and had a couple drinks before driving. Police officials say the man, whose name wasn’t released, performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations.

The driver blew a .137 BAC on a breathalyzer test. He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up facility. Two subsequent chemical breath tests revealed a BAC of .12 and he was cited for operating while intoxicated.
