(WWJ) Two Detroit teenagers are being charged as adults in connection with the murder of an Uber driver during a carjacking.

The Wayne County Prosecutor Office says it is alleged that 16-year-old Devin Delon McKee and 15-year-old Lanyah Quan Brady called for an Uber last Thursday, with the intention of robbing the driver.

Once inside driver Timothy Perkins' car, the teens allegedly attacked the 60-year-old Southfield man with a hammer and stabbed him with a knife, according to investigators.

After the attack, the teens fled in his Perkins' vehicle.

The mortally wounded victim was found in an alley at Elmer and Lawrence, bleeding from his head, and with multiple stab wounds to his back and torso.

He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Following an investigation by Detroit Police, McKee and Brady were arrested on Monday.

Each was arraigned as an adult on charge of first degree murder, carjacking and armed robbery in 36th District Court on Friday.

McKee was remanded to jail without bond, and Brady received a $ 1 million dollar cash/surety bond with a GPS tether, and house arrest if the bond is posted.

“It is rare that we use the automatic waiver to charge juveniles as adults. But the alleged facts in this case are especially heinous and violent," said Worthy, in a statement. “The evidence in this case will show that these defendants called an Uber with a plan to rob and carjack the driver, beat and bludgeoned him, and left him in an alley to die.”

The pair has a Probable Cause Conference set for Feb. 10, 2021, before Judge Ronald Giles.

Worthy's office said further fact and evidence in the case will be presented during future court proceedings.
