ANN ARBOR (WWJ) – A University of Michigan student has died after being hit by a car while riding a motorized scooter over the weekend.
Ann Arbor police officials say 21-year-old Seth Sugar of Deerfield, Illinois, was killed in the crash. Officials say he was a student at the school.
Officers were called to Oakland Avenue and Hill Street near the university campus around 11:30 p.m. Saturday after the crash.
When they showed up they found Sugar with significant head injuries. Investigators say he was riding the battery-operated scooter east on Hill when he crossed the centerline near Oakland.
He was hit head-on by a sedan driven by a 77-year-old Ann Arbor resident, according to police. Other circumstances surrounding the crash were not released.
The driver of the sedan was not injured and remained on-scene, officials said.
Sugar was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation unit also responded to the scene and assisted in the crash investigation.
Authorities are still investigating the crash and say more information will be released when it becomes available.
