DETROIT (WWJ) - A cash reward of $1,000 is being offered for any information in the homicide of Dr. Devon Hoover whose body was discovered fatally shot inside his Boston-Edison home last month.
The Detroit Police Department said they are investigating all leads into Hoover's death, but are now turning to the public for help in the case which has prompted more questions than answers.
The 53-year-old neurosurgeon's body was discovered by police on Sunday, April 23 after officer's were called out to his home in the 100 block of W. Boston Blvd., near Woodward Avenue in the city's Boston Edison Historic District, for a well check.
Hoover's body had been wrapped up in a blanket or in plastic, according to police sources, and the death was ruled a homicide after medical examiners confirmed that the doctor had been shot in the head multiple times.
The Detroit Police Department had in custody a "person of interest," but that individual was later released.
Chief James White said investigators believe that Dr. Hoover knew his killer, but police have not revealed if they have identified any suspects at this time.
Hoover's murder captured intense local interest and further mystery after his sprawling Boston-Edison home was broken into a week after his body was found.
Little more is known at this time about the home invasion and it remains unclear if anything was stolen, police said. Law enforcement did not provide details about how the suspect entered the residence or what state the home was in when the break-in was discovered.
"We're asking anyone with information to send an anonymous tip to detroitrewards.tv and include case #: 2304230294," Detroit police said.
Hoover worked at Ascension Healthcare at St. John Hospital in Detroit.
