DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit family is yearning for justice for their 21-year-old son.

“The irresponsible actions of a violent predator took the life of Devin George,” Police Chief James White said.

Police said Devin George was riding his 2015 Jeep Cherokee on Ohio Street in the area of Oakman and Joy (city’s southwest side) on January 23 when someone opened fire.

“Everyone thinks 21 years old is a man,” his sister Brenden George said during a Crime Stoppers press conference. “So, when they hear a 21-year-old man killed, they don’t think of my baby brother being killed. They don’t think of that person we had being taken from us.”

Devin was on his way home from a gas station in his neighborhood just before 10 p.m., police said. While trying to escape the gunfire, he crashed into a parked car as the suspect(s) continued shooting.

“My brother Devin meant the world to me, the world. I can’t name a memory I had without him,” Brenden said. “…. Our family, we need some type of closure because he didn’t deserve this.”

Devin later died from his wounds sustained in the crash and the shooting.

“If you ask anyone, any neighbor old or young, they would tell you how respectful he was, how giving he was…” Brenden told reporters.

She said a friend told her of the time Devin helped when the friend’s family had “no food in the house.”

“He knew what was up,” Brenden said, recounting the friend’s story. “He gave my mom money for groceries.”

Brenden remembered how his funeral was at capacity because he “gave so much love, shared so much love.”

Devin was a student at Minnesota State College where he played football and pursued a degree in Radio Broadcasting. He had dreams of making it into the NFL.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $45,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) responsible for Devin’s death. Crime Stoppers does not wait for a conviction to pay the reward.

“My heart leaks knowing I will never again hear my son saying good morning, I love you,” His mother, Tikia George, said. “Anything.”

You can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up. All tipsters will remain 100% anonymous.

“This could be your brother,” Brenden said. “Your family.”
