A dog is recovering after a 15-foot fall into an open manhole in Dearborn Heights, Mich.

First responders were able to rescue the pooch who darted away during a routine walk with his pet parents. See video of his harrowing rescue HERE.

“The owner -- when we arrived on scene -- he was frantic, not being able to get to your dog, the owner broke down,” Dearborn Heights Fire Marshal Maxwell Mitts told clickondetroit.com.

The scared pet had fallen into a hole left by water crews who were doing a survey.

As firefighters responded to assist, a survey crew member was hoisted down the hole. She harnessed the dog and brought him back up with her.

So, how was he? Scared but OK, first responders said.

“It was treading water. You can tell the dog was exhausted. On duty crews said the dog tried climbing the later. It wasn’t happening,” Mitts said.
