The Macomb County Sheriff's Office has released a photo in connection with the investigation into a deadly motorcycle crash last week on 26 Mile Rd.
David Chapman, 76, of Southgate was killed by a hit-and run driver in Ray Township on Thursday, June 24.
Investigators said Chapman was headed westbound on 26 Mile, just west of North Ave., when witnesses said Chapman left the roadway, driving on the gravel shoulder.
When he re-entered the roadway he collided with a small, black trailer pulled by a pick-up truck that was traveling eastbound on 26 Mile.
Chapman was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officials said the driver of the pickup truck stopped and got out of his vehicle to look at his trailer, but then fled the scene eastbound on 26 Mile.
He is described as a slender, white male. The truck is described as possibly a Chevy, with possible branches or yard bags in the bed.
The sheriff’s office is asking for help to identify the driver of what they're calling a "vehicle of interest." A photo of the truck released Monday was taken in the area of 26 Mile and Romeo Plank near the time of the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Steven Kukuk at 586-469-6634 or submit an anonymous tip through the MacombCo Sheriff app.
