(WWJ) -- A Warren man is facing drunk driving charges for the sixth time after allegedly getting behind the wheel with his wife in the car after having six drinks.
Troy police say they were called to the Holiday Inn at 400 Stephenson Highway around 5:30 a.m. on April 30 after a woman allegedly came running into the hotel’s lobby, yelling that her husband was trying to kill her.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the woman and she told them her husband was driving intoxicated and that he’d driven the vehicle into a ditch.
When the woman demanded to be let out of the vehicle, her husband pulled into the hotel parking lot and parked the vehicle over a curb and halfway on the grass.
While officers continued to speak with the woman, the 47-year-old man from Warren -- whose name has not yet been released -- came walking out of the hotel lobby doors.
That’s when officers began talking with him and noticed an odor of alcohol emanating from him as he spoke. He was able to provide a State of Michigan Identification Card but not a driver’s license.
Police then discovered his driver’s license had been suspended with a prior conviction of driving with a suspended license.
The man told police he’d had three drinks that night, but later admitted to having six.
The man performed poorly on several field sobriety evaluations, and then blew a .267 on a preliminary breath test.
Police arrested the man and took him to the Troy Police lock-up facility, where he declined to submit to a chemical blood test. A search warrant was then drafted for a blood test and signed by a magistrate.
The man’s blood was drawn by medical personnel and he has been charged with Driving While License Suspended -- 2nd or subsequent offense. He was also charged with a sixth offense of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, pending lab results.
