WARREN, Mich. (WWJ) -- Warren police say they’re searching for a 45-year-old man who was allegedly seen leaving a home where a young child overdosed on drugs Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities say they were called to a house near 9 Mile and Schoenherr Roads Wednesday on the report of a nine-month old baby girl who was struggling to breathe. Warren police say the girl overdosed on narcotics and was administered Narcan on the way to the hospital.
The child was said to be in critical condition Thursday afternoon. Two other young children who were in the home at the time of the incident are now with relatives, according to police.
A preliminary police investigation found the child’s 26-year-old mother is suspected of using narcotics in the home, and she has been arrested.
Many details about the incident, however, remain unclear and authorities still have a lot of questions, including why 45-year-old Brian Scott was seen by a neighbor leaving the house shortly after the 9-1-1 call was made.
Warren Police detective Twardesky says investigators are still unsure of the exact relationship between Scott and the girl’s mother, but they want to know more about Wednesday’s incident.
“We obviously would like to speak with him about what was taking place in the house and why he felt the need to leave a dying child behind with the mother,” Twardesky told WWJ.
The detective says Scott has warrants out for his arrest unrelated to this case, but did not elaborate on those charges.
Police are asking anyone who knows of Scott’s whereabouts to contact the Warren Police Department at (586) 574-4780.
