WARREN (WWJ) - Warren police officials have released body cam footage showing Warren police officers' "emotional" attempts to save the life of a baby who died in the back of a patrol car over the weekend.
Commissioner Bill Dwyer released the video Tuesday that shows the police response Saturday morning that led officers to driving a non-breathing 4-month-old to the hospital themselves as opposed to waiting for EMS personnel to arrive.
The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital upon arrival.
Dwyer said the video shows "first-hand the emotional" response to the medical emergency and the officers' "heroic attempts" to save the child.
"The footage will show officers quickly arriving on scene, immediately performing CPR, and making the split-second decision to transport the child to Ascension Oakland Hospital, all the while continuing to perform CPR on the child until arriving at the Hospital," Dwyer said earlier Tuesday.
The footage is being released amid criticism from first responders who believe they could have done more for the baby at the scene and en route to the hopsital.
Instead, dispatch informed them that the officers took the baby themselves.
The following is a known timeline of the events -- which span over four minutes -- released by Warren Police:
• 9:38 a.m.: 911 call received
• 9:38 a.m.: Police dispatched to the scene
• 9:40 a.m.: Police arrive at the scene
• 9:40 a.m.: Police leave the scene with the baby
• 9:41 a.m.: EMS dispatched to the scene
• 9:42 a.m.: EMS notified that baby was already transported from the scene
• 9:42 a.m.: Police arrive at Ascension Hospital with the baby
According to police, officers decided to self transport the 4-month-old in their vehicle "within 30 seconds" after arriving at the scene.
Authorities have not released the baby's cause of death.
Both the Warren Police Department and the EMS agency are continuing their investigation into the incident.
