DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police have vowed to crack down on illegal street racing this summer, enlisting the help of the Michigan State Police.

The agencies made good on their word over the weekend, making two arrests after busting up a rowdy scene in the city.

MSP released a video on Twitter over the weekend showing off their infrared technology from a helicopter that helped lead to the arrests on Friday night.

The video shows a Dodge Challenger doing donuts in the intersection of Grand and Palmer. As a trooper arrives on the scene, the vehicle flees, but the trooper in the air was able to continue tracking the suspects, showing them attempting to re-fuel the car at multiple gas stations.

Police showed up to the gas stations, causing them to flee onto I-96, where they ultimately ran out of gas near Grand River and fled on foot, narrowly missing oncoming traffic.

The chopper was able to keep an eye on the suspects, pointing police in their direction.

Authorities say one suspect is still on the run.
