DETROIT (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a vehicle crashed into a coney island restaurant on Detroit’s east side early Saturday morning.
Less than an hour into the New Year, a truck crashed into Zorba’s Coney Island, in the area of E. McNichols Road and Hoover Street, sending customers inside the restaurant scrambling.
Detroit police say no serious injuries were reported and the driver and passenger of the truck got out and fled the scene on foot.
Authorities said Saturday night they had identified both suspects, though it was not clear whether any arrests had been made.
The scene was captured on surveillance video, which has racked up thousands of views on social media.
The video shows the vehicle smashing right through the front doors. While it appears at least two people were struck by the vehicle, authorities said there were no serious injuries.
One Twitter user commented that her step daughter was the woman seen being hit at the counter and her dad was seen climbing on the counter to help her.
“She’s sore but she’s still alive,” the woman said on Twitter.
While police said the suspects had been identified, they did not release any further information about the incident. It was not clear what led to the crash or whether any arrests had been made, as of Sunday morning.
