(WWJ) -- Beginning today, eligible residents in Macomb and Wayne counties can start receiving a booster shot to fight off the coronavirus.
The Wayne County Health Department says Pfizer and Moderna booster shots will be available for those who are immunocompromised at all vaccine sites.
"Boosters for immunocompromised residents are another safe and effective tool to help our residents stay safe from COVID-19," said Wayne County Executive Warren Evans. "The best way to end this pandemic is for all eligible residents to get vaccinated and wear masks in public indoor spaces. Both actions are proven ways to slow the spread of COVID-19."
Melita Jordan, Director of the Wayne County Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services, advises that eligible residents should consult their doctor or other medical provider about whether they should receive a booster.
Booster vaccines are also available at many Wayne County health providers, local pharmacies, and major grocery chain stores by appointment or walk-in.
Appointments in Wayne County -- as well as arrangements for in-home booster for homebound residents -- can be made by calling 1-866-610-3885 or by texting "WAYNE VAX" to 48355.
