DETROIT (WWJ) – A Westland man is behind bars after a rollover crash on I-96 led to his arrest early Sunday morning.

Michigan State Police were called out to the westbound I-96 local lanes near Wyoming on Detroit’s west side around 5:40 a.m. after the crash.

As the tow truck crew was in the process of removing the vehicle, MSP officials say the at-fault driver of the vehicle “became agitated, walking into traffic and hitting vehicles.”

Authorities say the driver took an unknown pill and ate it during the incident. It was later identified as Excedrin.

The driver had made strange comments and troopers had to struggle with the driver to get him under control. Once the driver was placed in handcuffs, he continued fighting with troopers.

The 48-year-old driver was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, where a search warrant was going to be obtained for his blood. He was admitted to the hospital.

Police later discovered the suspect had numerous outstanding warrants for his arrest, though officials didn’t provide any further details.

The investigation is still ongoing.
