Michigan has lost hundreds of thousands of hunters over the last 20 years. As deer season opens, what needs to be done to 'buck' the trend?

(WWJ) – Tuesday is one of the biggest days of the year in Michigan – opening day of firearm deer hunting season.

Roughly 400,000 Michiganders will grab their rifles early Tuesday morning alone and try to bag the first buck of the season. But that number has taken a nosedive across the state in the last two decades.

On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark looks at the drop in numbers and what’s being done to “buck” that trend and get more people headed back to deer camp.
