(WWJ) A 50-year-old Auburn Hills man is dead after a reported accident involving a handgun over the weekend.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, it happened Sunday afternoon, at a home in the 300 block of N. Perry St. in Pontiac.
Deputies responded to a 911 call about a man who'd accidentally shot himself, and found the victim lying on the living room floor.
The victim had a gunshot wound to his head and a semi-automatic pistol lying next to him, according to the sheriff's office. He was treated at the scene and then rushed by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s brother, girlfriend, and a friend were all there when it happened; and all of them were interviewed and released.
The girlfriend told deputies that she'd told her boyfriend to stop playing with the gun, shortly before he put the pistol to his head and pulled the trigger.
An evidence technician responded and processed the scene, and the body was turned over to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
On Monday, the sheriff's office said the investigation was still ongoing.
