HARPER WOODS (WWJ) -- A woman is in custody after she took a Tesla for a test-drive and kept on driving.
The suspect led police on a multi-county chase which ended when authorities employed a pit maneuver at I-94 and Vernier Road in Harper Woods to box in the Tesla and take her into custody.
According to Troy police, the 20-year-old woman took the car from a dealership for a “test drive.” When she didn’t return, employees activated the vehicle’s onboard tracking and called the police.
Michigan State Police assisted as she was first located by troopers on I-75 exiting on Rochester Road and pursued through Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.
The driver reportedly suffered a foot injury during the stop and was treated at the scene.
A video of the chase does not show the woman’s arrest to avoid identifying the suspect prior to any charges being filed.
